2006 Shelby Hertz GT350H to Make its Debut at New York Auto Show

With the introductions of the Shelby GT500, GT/CS California Special and Foose Stallion Mustangs in 2006, one has to wonder how it could get any better for Mustang Enthusiasts.

Well, according to the recent article ‘2006 Shelby Hertz GT350H Is Coming to a Hertz Outlet Near You’ at Inside Line, Ford is set to deliver another special throwback Mustang.

So, what exactly does Ford have in the works?

According to Inside Line, a new version of the Shelby Hertz GT350H will be unveiled at the New York Auto Show in April and should be available at select Hertz car rental facilities throughout the U.S. this summer.

The 2006 Shelby Hertz GT350H will bear the same black and gold paint scheme of the original car in 1966, but the new version will be based on the 2006 Mustang GT platform. New calibration for powertrain controls will be added to the Shelby GT350H’s 4.6-liter V8, along with intake and exhaust tuning which should bring total output to 320hp. Total production is expected to be a limited run of 200 vehicles.

The original 1966 Shelby GT350H was a high performance Mustang that was modified by Caroll Shelby and distributed to select Hertz car rental franchises for the company's "Rent a Racer" program. The new version borrows heavily from that concept as Ford plans to build the Mustangs, ship them to Shelby for tweaking and then distribute them to Hertz dealers.
